MARY MARTHA CIRCLE WEDNESDAYS FROM 1-3 IN THE DISCIPLES ROOM
We are known as the “craft” circle and do numerous projects throughout
the year. Since our formation in May of ‘07 we have made and distributed
many prayer shawls and lap robes to residents of nursing homes, members of
our church, and people in the community. Pastor Meredith gives our crocheted
baby hats to new babies that she visits. We have also donated many baby hats
to ACMC and Birth Care. Last Christmas we made 7 quilts that were given to
HALO families which the church had adopted. We are in the process of making
at least 7 more quilts for Christmas of ’08.
Besides those ongoing projects, our mission activities have included: Made
rice crispy treats and book markers for Christo Team to pack in the boxes they
send to college students and those in the military; Crocheted 40 heart pins
for guest and staff at “Table Talk” for Valentines Day; Packed
Easter bags for members of our church that reside at Jefferson Health Care;
Donated 2 prizes of a prayer shawl and a gift bag of crochet-topped dish towels,
scrubbies, and knitted dishcloths for the All Daughters Banquet in May; Made
9 cross book markers for the Confirmation Class; Helped to pack Health Kits;
Gave homemade cards and prayed for the Home Mission Team; Made up 34 “goodie
bags” for the Christo Mission Team; Made muffins and served about 60
people at the brunch to welcome home the mission team from W. Va.
As a fund raiser, we held a dinner for the Historical Society last fall. The
proceeds are used to buy supplies for our quilt making and other projects.
Presently we are planning a tea party for residents at Jefferson Health Care
and will be making winter hats for the Austinburg Rehabilitation Center.
We meet each Wednesday from 1 to 3 in the Disciples Room and welcome anyone
to join us. Some of our members who cannot make our regular meetings do projects
at home or while wintering in Florida. As you have read, we are very versatile
with our projects and can use the help of those with any level or type of skills.
If you don’t know how to do it, we will teach you. If you can’t
make it every week, come when you can. We are a fun group. Share patterns,
ideas, skills, material, laughs, and concerns. We also take time out from our
crafting for devotions and take turns giving a report on an article that we
have read from the UMW Response magazine. We have been blessed with many donations
of yarn, material, and other craft items. A big Thank You to those donors.
We are always in need of cotton material and pieces for our quilt making. For
more information, call Millie (812-1597) or Doreen (576-1240)
